There were a few things in the area we wanted to see so we headed out through Port MacDonnell a Southern Rock Lobster fishing town.
It was a bit too early for eating lobster so we headed to Mt Shank. It is Australia’s youngest volcano and quite nice to climb to the top of and then down into the crater.
Next was the Blue Lake, which is Mt Gambier’s water supply. It is a huge volcanic crater full of water which fills from rain water and also spring fed from below. Like everywhere, the water level has been dropping over the years. Keeping it clean is also a constant problem. There were a few crater lakes in the area but this was the most beautiful. M
We saw an interesting looking “antique” 2nd hand/ vintage/junk shop on the side of the road and had to stop. The guy called himself a “collectormaniac” which was a good description. The rooms and rooms of stuff were amazing. A lot of junk and some treasure in there as well but you would really need to spend some time to find it. Steve also found a bird out the front. M
Next we headed Ewans Ponds but Steve will write about it. M
